San Francisco - Garibaldi Italian Picnic / crowds on the street / crowds in park / CU participants / pan of crowds / parade / officials on reviewing stand / three girls / milling crowds in North Beach

Excellent image of crowds of people (mostly little boys) walking along a San Francisco street (Russian Hill somewhere or downtown-?). Several little boys wave their hats to the camera. They stop and horse around in front of it, too. They seem very excited.

Nice sequence of images of a large, rowdy crowd of mostly men (if not all) waving their hats to the camera, jumping up and down, and generally acting ecstatic. They are part of some large event (or part of a street parade). The camera pans across the many heads in the crowd. Behind the men we see a playground where children are swinging.

Interesting image of women in white waving flags leading a parade along an undeveloped San Francisco road. Behind them are men in white, and another group of men in plain clothes carrying a large tarp. They walk by a row of small, single story homes. Observers stand along the side of the road. Is this part of the Italian Athletic Parade in 1929-?

The fast and the furious
Imagine a picnic with out of control Italians. OK, maybe that bad. The first few shots though seem to be that way as a whole pile of people pile on to be on camera. They dance! Jump! And generally cause craziness. Luckily it appears that the police arrive or something, and the rest of the shots are remarkably calm and pompous. These shots are actually quite fun because of all the serious pageantry going on.
